2012Torch
The World Olympics are an illustration of sharing in the joy of sportsmanship, international community, and pride in humanity. In the spirit of the Olympic torch the 2012 Torch relay was an app that allowed anyone to pass the digital Olympic flame to a friend. Torchbearers could pass the flame via the phone or by posting it to Facebook.
The 2012 Torch was a unique challenge in user experience and development. Our task was to give the user the feeling that a claymation flame was passed from one mobile device to the next seamlessly. Additionally, users could view and follow any torch relay on a world map. Users could follow as a torch they passed traversed the globe.
Our approach of focusing on user testing from the beginning gave the team the ability to work through difficult user experience constraints on a tight timeline. That methodology allowed our team to launch 2 weeks prior to the start of the Olympic Torch run.
