SocialBillity
SocialBillity is a mobile app for the iPhone, in conjunction with an online portal for merchants. Together, they are a location-based mobile marketing solution. It provides merchants with a virtual storefront to connect with mobile consumers driving foot traffic and boosting sales at stores and events.
Our biggest challenge here, as with most online communities, is the 1% rule. Also known as the "participation inequality". Which means that only 1% of all online users post unique content while the other 99% participants will lurk.
Knowing SocialBillity’s strength lies with the users, we had to create a platform that catered to intuitively finding and posting deals. Making the posting process as easy, fast, and as fun as possible was crucial. Incentives for being a power user were also key, hence, "It pays to be social."
With extensive user testing early in the process all the way through to launch, we feel we created a solution that best met the users' needs.
We designed a "1-2-3" seamless posting process that capitalized on visual cues, high contrast for outdoor use, and a user interface with breathing room to quickly digest information for first time users. The end product succeeded in being as close as possible to a "no learning curve"" solution.
