Sound Machine is a modern background music service aimed at providing customized and appropriate music playlists to businesses world-wide. Sound Machine utilizes the very latest in web technologies to deliver a refined experience without sacrificing standards. In addition to its website, Sound Machine provides an optional hardware device whose software was also designed and developed by Clean Lines Collective. The device aims to provide uninterrupted service in the event of loss of internet connection. Together with the cutting edge in web technology, and the reliability of a physical device, Sound-Machine.com is a complete and superior product.
The sheer complexity of Sound Machine cannot be understated. Permissions levels, account types, and a fully AJAX interface only cracks the surface of what is a truly large website. Sound-Machine.com required the extensive use of OOP, AJAX, API design, server-side optimization, database design and optimization, server-side security, and more.
In addition to requiring a broad range of technologies and skills, Sound-Machine needed a simple and refined user experience that would ensure that a user saw consistency and ease of use throughout the website and hardware streaming device.
Throughout the course of this project, communication was the most essential factor to completing it, and doing so correctly. The many, many parts and pieces, technologies, and interface decisions involved meant that not only did the scope have to be extremely well defined, but each definition had to be weighed against other possibilities.
After careful consideration of every feature, and a process laid out that considered future feature additions, wireframes were created to solidify the scope and make sure everyone was on the same track.
While the back-end functionality was vital to the effectiveness of the product, an effective design was also important. Sound Machine was provided exactly that.
